"Chez Los Lichis (trois Mexicains, un Français), aucune filiation servile à déplorer : on ne s’inféode à rien de vraiment précis, préférant s’émanciper des tutelles trop voyantes au profit d’un exotisme mystérieux. Oublions donc les Allemands estampillés « seventies », aussi bien Guru Guru que la première mouture d’Amon Düül ou Can, mais également leurs héritiers spirituels Cul de Sac, ou ces groupes qui, comme eux et à la manière du No Neck Blues Band, ont fait de l’improvisation informelle un rituel, même s’il est vrai qu’en matière de parentés, il existe depuis les années 2000 une famille d’ensembles aux préoccupations voisines hébergée par le label du critique américain Byron Coley.
Car, à nul autre pareil, les membres de Los Lichis possèdent leur propre théâtre des opérations, dédale apatride miraculeux brouillant les repères en quête d’un folklore imaginaire. Et à force d’en avoir débordé l’infinité des possibles, leur démarche s’est dégagée de toute asphyxiante culture comme des temporalités figées, affolant les boussoles et inventant de singulières équations idiosyncrasiques, où rythmes obstinés et trouées psychédéliques hypnotiques n’ont de cesse de défier les codes et distiller une ivresse proprement lysergique.
En fait, ce groupe a compris que nous ne valons que par ce qui nous distingue des autres, et que l’on s’élève à puiser aux sources du Grand Souk cosmique, ce que démontre le magique Eerie Breedings en déterritorialisant sans complexe : c’est ainsi que des liens invisibles et addictifs y développent une ethnographie sans frontières, exempte de tout hermétisme, et dans laquelle le chant du monde tout entier est convoqué puis réagencé au fil d’une inspiration bigarrée."
